Our currently featured Rocky Mountain Alumna is Denise
Cohen from Manitou Springs near Colorado Springs. Denise is a member of the 1996 class of Leadership America. Here business
is in the real estate investment field. Here's her bio:
Denise Cohen is managing her portfolio of real estate while
renovating a newly purchased home. Cohen moved into nonprofit community organizing as executive director of Community Conversation
on Race in Colorado Springs, CO. Her work focused on bringing people of diverse backgrounds into small safe discussion groups
to talk about issues of race. As senior woman administrator/compliance coordinator at the United States Air Force Academy,
Denise Cohen was responsible for the Women's Athletic Program, as well as monitoring the Academy's compliance with the NCAA
Rules and Regulations. She had previously served as assistant athletic director at the University of the Pacific and the
University of Hartford. While at the University of Hartford, she also served as the interim athletic director and was the
athletic director at Molloy College. She has coached women's golf at the University of Hartford and women's basketball at
Molloy. In every community Ms. Cohen has lived, she has organized ways for women to get involved in sports. On Long Island,
she founded the Coors Light Women's Basketball League for women of all ages and skill levels. In three years, the league
grew to 22 teams with 250 participants and a corporate sponsor. At the University of Hartford, Ms. Cohen developed the Lady
Hawks Golf Classic, a women's tournament for all levels of play. This fundraiser raised over $10,000 and was enthusiastically
received in the community. Ms. Cohen has a BA in Economics and Psychology from Bucknell University and an MA in Physical Education
with a certificate in Sports Management from Adelphi University.
